The recent Temenos Regional Forum ASEAN in Jakarta brought together over 250 banking professionals to discuss the future of the banking industry. Featuring Temenos partners, including RedHat, Deloitte, AWS, Bahwan Cybertek, Systems Ltd, Abris, Microsoft, Uniken, Fortress Data Services, and Aspire Systems, it was a highly anticipated event for the banking industry in the region.

I had the privilege during the event to take stock of what we have accomplished so far in our innovation journey, partnering with some of the leading banks within the Indonesian banking industry.

Our partner-first approach to support clients in over 150 countries across all banking segments, including retail, corporate, and wealth management, has helped us to scale up a strong regional presence to serve our banking clients across the Asia Pacific, from incumbents to new digital challengers. We are also proud to be able to partner alongside Bank Syariah Mandiri (BSI), the largest Islamic bank in Indonesia, for their retail and microfinancing needs for Indonesia.

He highlighted Temenos Leap, a new holistic modernization program. Leap enables Temenos clients to move quickly and seamlessly to the latest Temenos platform so they can take advantage of our most up-to-date banking technology and be ready for a move to the cloud or to SaaS. William concluded by showcasing Temenos’ accolades in the sustainability space, with some of the significant milestones that Temenos has accomplished in helping the global banking industry become more sustainable.

Distinguished panelists included Yosamartha, Deputy Director of Payment System Policy Department at Bank Indonesia; Ravi Srinivivasa, Business Transformation Director at Deloitte Singapore; Rully Feranata, Senior VP of IT Strategy & Governance Division Head at PT AlloBank Indonesia Tbk, and Frankie Wai, Business Solution Director APAC at Temenos.

Pak Yosamartha highlighted three aspects of banking trends in ASEAN: infrastructure, industry, and innovation. Infrastructure focuses on cybersecurity, industry on strengthening the role of non-banks, and innovation on enhancing financial inclusion. The session also emphasized the need for banks to innovate and adapt to challenges such as geopolitical tensions and high debt, underscoring the importance of technology in seizing future opportunities.

In a session on Generative AI, Ermes Dajko, Senior Cloud Solutions Architect at Temenos, outlined how generative AI can transform banking by improving decision-making through rapid data extraction and insights for accurate decisions. He also discussed compliance by analyzing regulatory texts to reduce workload and costs, personalizing services based on individual needs, and ensuring security by emphasizing the need for banks to control their data and AI models. Ermes advocated integrating generative AI to redefine customer relationships and enhance operational efficiency.

Other highlights from Temenos Regional Forum ASEAN included the latest digital solutions for business banking. These include onboarding tools, digital banking services, and an AI-powered Smart Banking Advisor to help manage cash flow and costs. We also introduced new core banking capabilities for asset financing, aimed at providing businesses more accessible access to various financing options designed to improve financial management and support business growth digitally.

On the corporate banking front, we highlighted changes in the economic and geopolitical landscape affecting supply chain financing and the need for resilience and digital innovation in business processes. At Temenos, we offer a comprehensive solution designed to optimize the management of working capital and liquidity invested in supply chains. This places the bank as the central hub of supply chain finance, enabling a customer-centric approach to delivering flexible and innovative solutions to the market.

Another key highlight from ASEAN forum was Temenos Enterprise Services. In today’s fast-paced world, banks are looking for solutions that can leverage today. Temenos Enterprise Services offer pre-packaged, pre-configured and end-to-end banking capabilities, allowing for rapid delivery and agility. With over 120 pre-configured products, processes and 700 APIs, temenos Enterprise Services enable banks to reduce modernization cost, complexity and risk and accelerate time to value. We developed these end-to-end services as a response to the need for a rapid deployment banking engine that can give banks the edge that they need to outperform and outpace the competition in the hyper-competitive banking landscape that is today’s banking industry.

We were also proud to host Cyrus Daruwala, Global MD, FSI at IDC and Board Advisory – ASEAN Economic Forum. In his keynote – “Banking Trends & Opportunities”, Cyrus highlighted critical developments in the financial services landscape in ASEAN, particularly in Indonesia. He noted an increasing trend towards economic closure due to geopolitical tensions and trade disputes, affecting the movement of talent, goods, and financial services. He also emphasized the need for financial institutions to adapt to rapid changes in technology, user behavior, and regulations, focusing on modernizing core systems and leveraging AI and data management.
